His narrow defeat in last year’s National Triathlon Championships now well behind him, Birkirkara St. Joseph’s Keith Galea (picture) turned on yet again a very creditable performance in this year’s Malta Half Marathon, to grab first place in the Under 23 category for the second year running. It was a result that complimented his performance in the recent Cycling Team Time Trial, where he helped his Club to place fourth. His 1 hour 19 minutes 15 seconds 21-kilometre run, relegated his brother and National Triathlon Champion Dermot Galea to the shadows. Super Saint Dermot could only manage 1 hour 22 minutes 12 seconds, well below par by his own standards.
Birkirkara St. Joseph was represented by two male athletes in the full Marathon, 12 male athletes in the Half Marathon and six female athletes in the same race. A special mention goes to our Club’s friends from the UK, who also achieved some fantastic results, although they claimed that the hot weather (by their British thermometer) left its toll on most of them during the race. Well done Billy (1:38:17), Jojo (1:45:40), Marilyn (1:56:37), Alison (1:58:03), Margareet (1:58:03), Pamie (2:08:36) and Andy Smiff (2:20:55).Hereunder are the results achieved by the Saints and their respective placing both overall and in their categories.
