BIRKIRKARA ST JOSEPH LAUNCH THEIR CALENDAR OF EVENTS FOR 2010

Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club has launched its Calendar of Events for 2010, the 35th year since the Club’s foundation in 1975. During 2010, Birkirkara St. Joseph will be organising 17 events, namely: 4 races from the Birkirkara St. Joseph Triathlon Series, 4 races from the Birkirkara St. Joseph 5K Road Running Series, 6 races from the Birkirkara St. Joseph Open Water Swimming Series, a 20K Cycling Individual Time Trial, the Gozo-Malta Open Water Swimming Challenge, and the first edition of the Birkirkara St. Joseph Malta-Gozo-Malta Open Water Swim. This year the Club will be introducing a National Open Water Swimming Championship through the Open Water Swimming Series. All these events will be organised under the auspices of the relative National Federations and Associations. WAHOO SWIMMING NURSERY

During the annual presentation night for 2009, Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club officially launched their Swimming Nursery under the name Wahoo. This nursery has been functioning for the best part of this current swimming season with very encouraging results achieved in the Aquatic Sports Association competitions. The nursery is open to kids and youths between the ages of 7 and 16 years, and is under the guidance of Coach Mr. Catlin Stan. Mr. Dermot Galea is the nursery’s Director.

ENGLISH CHANNEL SWIM 2012

Preparations by Birkirkara St. Joseph’s Keith Bartolo are well underway, for the Saints’ long distance swimmer’s attempt to cross the English Channel in 2012. Following a spell of injuries, he is now back in his full training regime after having achieved good results in long distance swims in the UK. His programme for 2010 includes further long distance events in England, including a 13K race in Devon, and a 17K race in Windermere. In May Bartolo will be off to a training camp in Jersey under the expert guidance of coaches experienced in long distance swimming and Channel crossings.

EVENTS UPGRADING – BIRKIRKARA ST JOSEPH TWINS WITH MEDUSA TRADING
In its efforts to further upgrade its events for 2010, Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club and Medusa Trading have embarked on a project, wherein the latter will patronise the events with their products, services and presence. Medusa Trading Ltd. have the outlets The Cyclist in San Gwann and Better Living in Gzira. This Company imports sports goods, including professional racing bicycles (Scott, Corratec, etc.), Maxims Nutrition, and a wide choice of accessories for athletes and cyclists. Mr. J. Schiavone, Company Director, explained how they will be present in all the Birkirkara St. Joseph events offering their expertise and services to participants before, during and after races.
BIRKIRKARA ST JOSEPH TRIATHLON ULTRA CHALLENGE
During the 2010 events’ season, Birkirkara St. Joseph will be introducing the Triathlon Ultra Challenge, incorporating a number of races from all the various disciplines in the Club’s calendar of events. The Male and Female winners of this Challenge will be those with the smallest registered times achieved in the chosen events. Competition Rules for this challenge will be issued on this web-site as soon as the Club’s relevant Board finalises the set-up.
PRESENTATION OF AWARDS FOR 2009
Following the launching of the Club Calendar of Events for 2010, Birkirkara St Joseph Sports Club held its annual Awards Presentation Night for its 2009 competitions. Runners, swimmers, cyclists, triathletes and footballers converged at the Opal Room of the Qawra Palace Hotel for a star studded night presided over by the Club’s President Mr. Ray Grech in the presence of several distinguished guests. Mr Grech thanked everyone involved in making a huge success of his Club’s events during 2009, and promised that his organisers will be doing their utmost to further improve these events during 2010.
