
On Sunday, 6 December 2009, Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club took part in two highly significant events - the President's Fun Run for Charity and the Commonwealth Games Queen's Baton Relay.
Club members and guests, were met by Birkirkara Local Council Mayor Mr. Michael Fenech Adami (picture above) at the Birkirkara Old Railway Station, before joining the charity Fun Run lead by H.E. President George Abela. The Fun Run started from San Anton Palace and finished at the Palace in Valletta.

Straight after the run, the Saints headed towards Marsamxett harbour in Valletta, where they were met by the President and Secretary General of the Malta Olympic Committee, among other distinguished guests, to accompany the Commonwealth Games Queen's Baton on its relay towards India, the home of the Games in 2010. Clad in their wet suits (picture above) the Saints took to the water for an open water swim in the harbour.
