JOHANNA CALLEJA FIRST FEMALE AT PEMBROKE

Birkirkara St. Joseph’s Johanna Calleja was the first female to cross the finish line at the Pembroke-Swieqi 10-kilometre road race held on Sunday 14 April. The Saint led the race from the start, to finish the hilly route unchallenged in a time of 45 minutes 3 seconds - approximately 30 seconds ahead of second placed Corinne Degaetano.

Calleja is undergoing preparations for the forthcoming triathlon season.  Besides competing in road races, she took part in the recently held cycling Tour ta’ Malta, and she will be competing in the national cycling championships.  ...



SAINTS ON THE PODIUM IN THE MALTA MARATHON AND HALF-MARATHON 2013

Birkirkara St. Joseph’s Keith Galea’s and Michelle Vella Wood’s forte is triathlon, the former the national and European Under 25 Triathlon Champion and the latter the first runner-up in the national triathlon championships and a long distance triathlete, however they covered themselves in glory in long distance running as both of them grabbed a podium place in the Malta Marathon and Half-Marathon 2013 by placing second Maltese in the females and third Maltese in the males categories respectively. Keith Galea finished the 21-kilometre race in one hour, 15 minutes, 16 seconds, and Michelle Vella Wood finished the 42-kilometre race in three hours, 15 minutes, 9 seconds.
